EY2S Summer Missions are in the books! Last week we wrapped up our last week of summer missions. Student missionaries joined us from New Covenant Presbyterian Church and the community garden/Redeemer Church. The student leaders grew in patience and boldness of faith.
Last week the student missionaries served at the community garden. They dug out drainage ditches for the garden beds and prepared the rows for planting. To prepare the rows for planting, the missionaries completed adding the soil to each row and topped the soil with mulch. During the week a shed was delivered to store the lawn mower and gardening tools.
The student missionaries also served at PB Young Elementary school. They helped assemble desks and move supplies to prepare for the school year. They also helped the teachers prepare for a parent-teacher meet and greet.
Community outreach was an open-air Vacation Bible School that was open to all in the "Fun Forest" at Chesapeake City Park. Missionaries acted out skits, lead worship songs, and shared about the love of Christ with all the kids that participated. The missionaries passed out fliers and invited families that were spending the afternoons at the park. Many of the families from the community garden and other families that have been a part of EY2S brought their kids to participate in this last VBS of the summer. It was a beautiful time and the student missionaries did an amazing job.
At the beginning of the week the student missionaries from New Covenant and Redeemer Church were just getting acquainted. They were not as open and were not as bold in their faith. By the end of the week, it felt like the student missionaries had become one youth group. They were boldly praying in front of others and sharing in Bible Study. It was a joy to end the summer with this group of students that actively pursued God and each other. We are so grateful for the gift of being able to come alongside young missionaries as they serve God, each other, and the greater community.
